Run Club Menlo Park Spring Season 2024 Registration Notes

Please read the notes below about Spring Season 2024 and then follow the link to registration.

Registration for Run Club's Spring Season 2024 is now open. Previous runners have a guaranteed spot until March 1st. No payment will be due until March 2nd. After you register online, you will receive a confirmation email once Coach Scott has reviewed your registration. The girls team was full last season with 85 runners.

Practice Schedule: (Encinal Elementary School track/field: 195 Encinal Ave, Atherton)
Boys: Start on Monday March 18th. Practices: Mon/Wed 3:15-4:45 (even if there is no school that day)
Girls: Start on Tuesday, March 19th. Practices: Tue/Fri 3:15-4:45 (even if there is no school that day)
No Practices During MPCSD Spring Break: Apr 8th-12th.
Kids from non-Encinal schools (e.g. Hillview, Oak Knoll, Laurel, etc.) may arrive by 3:30 and not miss any running.
Last Practice: Friday, May 17th. 5K Races: Sat April 21st - My Heart Counts 5K, Stanford Campus. Sun May 19th - Schoolhouse Rocks 5K, Hillview Middle School.

** An Important Note About Girls/Boys Practice Days
Due to schedule conflicts, I allow girls to run at boys practices and boys to run at girls practices. There is no difference between the workouts that I have the girls and boys do anyway and this flexibility was helpful for many of the kids who wanted to participate in Run Club. Last season, Tue/Fri was full with 85 runners.

** An Important Note About Practices
Your runner needs to attend all practices. Doctor, dentist, and other appointments need to be scheduled for other days. We only practice two days a week and in order to make running progress, your runner needs to be there for both days. I have great flexibility for dual sport athletes who have schedule conflicts, so feel free to reach out to Coach Scott about that if it affects your runner.

** An Important Note About Advanced Runners
This spring will be Run Club's 13th season and I have runners who have trained with me for 12 seasons. Many of these runners are ready to advance their running so I will be offering advanced runners the option to train one extra day each week (3 days instead of 2). Run Club is technically an after-school program that competes at the "Club" running level. Getting a third day of training will give your runner a similar amount of training as a formal "Club" runner while still allowing for plenty of rest and staying safe from injury. In 12 seasons, we may have had as little as a single injury from training or maybe even zero. Coach Scott's training philosophy is actually based on lower volume but higher intensity and plenty of rest days.

** An Important Note About Carpools
Last year, we had very good carpools from Hillview and other MPCSD schools, so let me know if you are interested in carpooling and I can help parents organize.

Spring season (8 weeks) is lighter than fall season (12 weeks). Last fall, we raced 7 cross-country races including 11 runners who advanced all the way to the Junior Olympics nationals championships in Kentucky. This season, we will be training for two 5K races and maybe one track race if it is available this year. We will not participate in Junior Olympics for track as those are held at the end of July well past the end of our season.

Run Club is still the least expensive MPCSD after-school 3rd party program [only one under $24/hour ($23.95)]. Race fees for the Schoolhouse Rocks 5K are included in the price. There are no fees for coaching at races.
